Yoga classes in Falmouth

Biodynamic Yoga is based on the underlying principles that we have a life force that inhabits our bodies, Prana, a blueprint, a potency through which our minds and bodies are designed to move. We are curious creatures made of many patterns. I call my classes “Biodynamic” to reflect my changing,  essentially playful and creative approach to bodywork as a practice of enquiry and enhancement of natural energy. My teaching is informed by my experiences as a CranioSacral therapist and also by my long-term interest in Anatomy, Somatics, Feldenkrais, Continuum Movement, Authentic Movement and Bodymind centring. in class we practice a very wide range of movements utilizing intelligent sequencing and we use different techniques to explore our individual capacity, we seek to expand our awareness and choice to encourage the qualities of sustainable resilience, responsiveness and endurance. We ask the questions, How can I feel comfortable in my body? How find a sense of self belonging? How am I doing this? Is it fun? My classes have always been, and will remain, welcoming to all and I engage critically with intersectionality.

I have been practising yoga  for over 40 years. Yoga and Buddhist practice have been what I do with my life since my teens. During this time I have been very fortunate to study with many excellent teachers.  For more than 20 years I taught within the framework of BKS Iyengar as a qualified teacher. Iyengar yoga is characterised by a rigorous application of technique and clarity within posture and breath work. Meditation in action. I have found that its focus on structure and alignment offers safe practice guidelines for all abilities. Inspiration and challenge for when we are feeling strong and flexible; Support for more vulnerable times. Each system has its strength and weaknesses and I resigned from the Iyengar Teaching association many years ago feeling there was conflict with new insights gained from other trainings and the rule against studying any other form of yoga!  Since then I have undertaken many other trainings and see study as a lifetime path.

I have recently started a new venture combining embodied craft (weaving) with yoga. This is developing a really interesting way of working with embodiment. See events

I teach several inclusive yoga classes in Falmouth with slightly differing focuses (See Timetable), Embodied Anatomy in Falmouth and other UK trainings, Supervision and mentoring and offer short level 2 trainings, workshops and retreats. See Events if interested.

I believe that yoga can bring us to a place of increased self knowledge and awareness and acknowledge that the journey will be different for each individual but the outcome is the same, more choice, more personal leadership and better relationships with self, others and the world.. I respect this in my teaching.

I run regular classes in the Falmouth area and offer workshops, retreats and private tuition locally and nationally.

SPECIALISED CLASSES

I am increasingly involved in delivering Yoga For Trauma training and classes. I have developed course material for a groundbreaking training recognised by the BAPC in Manchester: training teachers to work with children with complex trauma. This is directly informed by Cranio Sacral theory and practice.

I love teaching my YogaWomen which is aimed at women who want to take some time exploring nourishing practices for the body and spirit.  Moving deeper into the feminine we take our time to reflect and renew.  Most classes emphasise pelvic health and energy and shoulder and chest health using a sereies of movements based on classical yoga but also utilizing biodynamic principles. This class is particularly suitable if you are in recovery, stressed, in a time of change or  simply tired. we also practice YogaNidra. Suitable for pregnant/post partum/peri/menopausal women or anyone who fancies something gentler.

I am currently delivering some somatics and breath workshops at St Michaels hotel. You can check out their wellbeing events for details.

I am the Co founder of Surya and Santosa eco yoga camps.
